Well Water, High Alkaline pH, TDS & Water Softeners

Our drinking water supply changes so much that this web page is to clarify some of the issues when connecting the source water to one of our ionizers.

Well Water

Outside well with a gable roof and post It almost would seem that no two wells are the same. A well just near by can be very different with output and quality not to mention large geographical differences such as North America.

A well can be "sweet water" or have excessive contaminants that would have to be removed by pre-filtration with specialty pre-filters or sometimes by a Reverse Osmosis system.

It is recommended that you know your source water either from a recent water test report or to have a new test done. Most of the time we will know where to go from there and make any recommendations.

A reverse osmosis system will generally be recommended when a particular problem can not easily be solved with pre-filtration. An RO system would necessitate the use of a re-mineral pre-filter to add essential alkaline minerals for proper ionization in the water ionizer.

Please check with us first before ordering an ionizer if you have well water and are unsure about the quality of your well water. In general most municipal water will be just fine for use with one of our water ionizers.

Excessive pH or very Hard Water

Hard water deposits on faucet Excessive hard water will also need a reduce hardness pre-filter to improve performance and reduce scale build up. The warranty threshold for the ionizer is no more than 17 grains of hardness without the use of a reduce hardness pre-filter. Please let us know if you have extremely hard water and we will recommend the proper pre-filter for this condition or alternatively our Reverse Osmosis System will solve the problem.

Total Dissolve Solids or TDS

Water testing instrumentTotal Dissolved Solids refers to combined content of all inorganic and organic substances suspended in a liquid and can be in a colloidal, ionized or molecular form. These particles are generally small in nature being no larger than 2 microns. A micron is defined as one millionth of a meter or one thousandth of a millimeter. By comparison, Salmonella enteritidis the bacteria that causes one form of food poisoning is between .06 and .07 microns.

High TDS can affect ionization in our water cell and pH and -ORP results can be altered to unsatisfactory. Our warranty to be void requires pre-filtration if TDS is up to and over 300ppm.Most municipal water is fine and TDS is usually a well issue but doesn't exclude certain municipalities. If in doubt please get a copy of a test report from your local water Company or call them. In general they will provide this free of charge and often the test report can be found on line.

Water Softeners

Photo of water softenerWater softeners are used when there is very hard water and the potential for scale buildup inside pipes, water heaters, toilets and plumbing fixtures. Water softeners also help with greater lathering bathing and with softer laundry. Most water softeners are of the negative ion type that use salt to change the ion properties of alkaline minerals so that scale buildup does not occur.

Water Softeners can reduce the ion effect of alkaline minerals and therefore affect the ionization results of your water ionizer. If you have a water softener and want to install an ionizer, chances are that you will need to bypass the softener or use a reverse osmosis system under the sink with a re-mineral pre-filter .Please contact us first so that we can recommend a solution based on your situation.

More and more people understand that the "perfect water" system would combineRO System

the purity of Reverse Osmosis (R/O) and the tremendous benefits provided by alkaline, ionized water. Historically this has not been easily achieved for a variety of reasons. Water technology experts have solved the problem of combining these two phenomenal yet very different water technologies. Now you can have perfectly clean AND perfectly healthy water by installing the R/O system before your Jupiter ionizer!

The Issues with R/O

R/O is by far the most popular water treatment technology in use in the USA today. R/O utilizes a technology called nano-filtration (typically .009 micron) to physically filter and remove virtually all suspended and dissolved material in water. To put a micron into perspective: a postage stamp is more than 25,000 microns long, the eye of the typical needle is usually 749 microns wide, a human hair is 40 to 120 microns in diameter, a grain of salt is about 70 microns across. The smallest particle visible to the naked eye is about 30-40 microns. RO filters to 9/1000th of a single micron. The quality of R/O membranes vary but typically between 90% and 98% of all suspended materials (good and bad) are removed and flushed down the drain.

R/O and Water Ionization are often thought of as polar opposites in terms of their effect on the water. R/O water is typically acidic and virtually mineral free, while ionized water is high in pH and rich in alkalizing minerals. The negative impact of more acid in our body (that is already too acidic due to chemicals, stress, poor food, and lack of healthy exercise) is obvious. Furthermore, many health experts believe that mineral-free water can be harmful and can actually lead to a de-mineralization of the body. Pure water molecules attach to molecules they come in contact with and flush them from the body. This includes the flushing of beneficial alkaline minerals, which is detrimental to our delicate acid/alkaline balance.

The good news about R/O is that virtually all dangerous contaminants are removed so you get virtually pure water. There are however some very difficult issues with R/O - especially when you attempt to mate it with an ionizer. First, in addition to removing all the contaminants, R/O removes almost all the naturally occurring minerals from the water. Ionization needs the minerals to work, so an ionizer will not usually work on R/O treated water. Secondly, R/O membranes process a very small volume of water and need a storage tank for the water so it is available when you need it. Annual replacement of the filters ($150 retail) and bi-annual replacement of the R/O membrane is recommended.

How much water will this system produce?R/O storage tanks consist of a container with an internal rubber bladder. The tanks are rated by the volume of their external shell, but the actual amount of water that can be extracted from the tank is much less. On a typical storage tank, approximately 3.2 gallons are available with an extraction capacity of only around 1.5 gallons. Since water ionizers split alkaline and the acidic streams, one can expect to draw about .84 gallons of alkaline water and .66 of acidic before the tank runs dry with a traditional sized tank of 3.2 gal. Therefore, the R/O system includes a high capacity 6 gallon storage tank.

The "Total" Solution: The Quality Re-mineralizing R/O System

How to easily combine the tremendous benefits of RO and ionization has not been an easy question to answer - until now. Introducing the revolutionary Re-mineralizing R/O System! IonLife has dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort into the design and development of the most sophisticated and convenient R/O system with re-mineralization on the market today. The system incorporates a high volume 100 gallon per day R/O membrane with an oversized storage tank (6 gallons 12" wide X 16" tall).

Cold water enters the R/O system going through a 5 micron sediment filter followedRO installation graphic

by a 5 micron carbon block. The water then enters our high volume 100 gallon per day R/O DOW membrane. This purified water is then fed into the high capacity 6 gallon storage tank. Once the tank if full, then automatically the system shuts off. When the faucet is turned on, water comes out of the tank and the auto shut off valve opens to begin the re-filling process all over again. Just before the faucet, the purified water flows through our high quality re-mineralization cartridge full of 70+ organic minerals and trace elements.
